How to Perfect your Etsy Listing Title

Quick and Easy hack to make sure you get the perfect length title for your Etsy listing

This post is perfect for you if you ever need to get some text to be a certain length like an Etsy Listing Title. All you need is a spreadsheet and a little imagination.When you are trying to craft that perfect title for your Etsy listing, you want to make sure you use the full 140 characters that you have available. You've done your research on the right keywords to use but now you have to fit them into a sentence that reads like something a normal person would write, uses all those precious keyword phrases and fits into the space available.This Excel hack will instantly let you see how many characters you've used and what you have left to play with for your Etsy Listing Title.(Also works for tags / Ebay titles / Folksy and probably many more...you just need to know how many characters they give you to use)

Let's get going

Open up a new blank worksheet & type your proposed title into cell A2 (HINT click wrap text to get it onto multiple lines)
Next, in cell A4 type the formula =LEN(A2)– this will tell you how many characters you’ve used
Then, in cell A6 type in 140 (or however many characters you are allowed to use)
Finally in cell A8 type the formula =A6 - A4-This will tell you how many characters you are over or under your limit

You can now play around with your text until you get it just right

BONUS STEPS

There are a few extra steps you can do to add a little formatting to your worksheet that will not only make it look great but, probably more importantly, be far easier to read

Click on A4 -> Conditional formatting -> Highlight cells rule -> Greater than and type =A6 in the box. (You can change the formatting to anything you like in the right-hand box)
HOMEWORK: why not try adding formatting to also highlight if the number is less than the number in A6
Finally, in cell A8 click on number formatting -> more number formatting and choose one that highlights negative numbers in red

Save your sheet and you are done!! Not so hard and you’ll always have the perfectly crafted Etsy Title or Tag for your next item'Till next time
